Are you ready for the changes that are coming?
The shutdown of the Australian ISDN (Integrated Services Digital Network) is just around the corner. On 30th September 2019, Telstra will commence the disconnection of all existing ISDN services.
Businesses who are running their telephony on this legacy technology will be affected. For some companies, the switch off can occur in a matter of months. That’s why it’s important to start planning now. Here’s what you need to know:
31st January 2018 – Telstra stopped selling new ISDN services to wholesale and retail customers.
30th June 2018 – Telstra issued a “stop sell” to all retail and wholesale customers for ISDN2, ISDN2 Enhanced, ISDN10/20/30, DDS Fastway, Megalink and Frame Relay products.
30th September 2019 – Disconnection will commence for existing ISDN connections.
By 2022 – The ISDN network will be fully decommissioned.
Migrating away from ISDN
If your telephony is powered by ISDN technology, it’s time to make a move. If you do not migrate your telephone system to an alternative solution, you will likely lose connectivity to your main business numbers.
Migrating to modern voice technology like SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) and VoIP (Voice over IP) offers several significant benefits, such as:
- Savings on your phone bill
- Unified communication across multiple sites
- Greater flexibility in terms of scalability and portability
- Advanced business communication functionalities
- Quality of Service guaranteed through private connectivity
- Redundancy through a secondary connection
